Old School RuneScape is Back

Last week, Mod Mark posted a thread on our forums light some of the nostalgic and often demon-ridden discussions inside the community around a desired return of associate 'old school' version of RuneScape. Specifically, the fine vintages of 2006 & 2007 appeared to be the division of collective interest. Our team then started to ascertain if we have a tendency to had a backup that went that far back; if restoring the backup was even technically possible; and what specific content these potential previous RuneScape 2007 backups would possibly contain.

The team has spent several late nights and therefore the past weekend dig through soiled previous backups and restoring them, within the hope of finding quite just the previous IT manager's MP3 collection of 80s rock power ballads!

Finally, I'm terribly happy to report that we've got indeed managed to recover a full RuneScape backup from August 2007. This is often a complete photo of the game, that we've got been able to verify would work, with a while and energy invested in it. Ironically, in Oct 2007 we have a tendency to really modified our backup systems, therefore we've got no complete content versions from August onwards that ar viable for this purpose.

As I said at the beginning of the year, we're all terribly focused on creating this year fun, memorable and special to you, and a big a part of realising this mission is providing you with a big say in what we have a tendency to concentrate on. That said, a large quantity has either modified or been improved since the exciting days of 2007. The game has evolved, as have our school, systems, and infrastructure. There will be a substantial quantity of labor concerned to induce these 'old school' servers keep a copy and running once more. However, if enough people support this project, this can be neither impossible, nor a hindrance to the main game.

So, a bit like the poll for the return of the Wildy & trade, that saw a jaw dropping 1.4 million votes , we are going to be running a similar poll and letting you - our valued members - decide the fate of 'Old school RuneScape', given that you directly fund the game's ongoing development and supporting services. This decision - beside the extent of service, investment and potentially any additional fee for the service - is
really up to you to see.

However, before we have a tendency to invest any longer resource into this project, we'd like to accurately gauge your level of support by understanding what number of you are very behind 'Old school RuneScape' as it was in August 2007. As such, we are going to discovered a poll on for players to indicate their interest within the 2007 service.

But before I buy into the specifics, there's one issue that's important to note. If this concept gathers enough support, then we are going to not ought to take our current talent far from all of the exciting updates to be enforced into this version of the game, as we are going to be able to rent a brand new dedicated team to work specifically on this project.

By providing you with the selection to play either version of the game, we have a tendency to ar demonstrating our commitment to listen and - where potential - incorporate your feedback. Within the long run, we have a tendency to hope that this project will bring back several veteran players, additionally as possibly encourage new players to affix. They will be able to live over their previous game expertise to their heart's content, and - if they therefore select - perhaps even be a part of the main game. Over succeeding couple of months and succeeding years, we've got associate ever-growing excessiveness of exciting content waiting to be deployed into the Evolution of Combat, regardless of the reinstatement of previous servers.
